It's a faff to plumb in the Saab cooler, so I usually retain the vx220 item unless otherwise requested  thumbsup

I'm keeping the saab one to minimise failure points. I would much rather use a hard mounted cooler than have a 14 year old cooler swinging about. There's enough of a problem with seals for the filter to make me want to swap.

In other news, Martin - how are you finding it?

As vocky said the plumbing re-routing is a pita but well worth doing just to avoid the sandwich plates And risk of leaks from the oil filter etc I'm very happy with my Saab cooler

I'm using a modified saab plate on the saab oil filter housing, with the Z22SE cooler. Wanted to avoid using the Z22SE oil filter housing at all costs.

(no pixies available unfortunately)

On the left was plan A.
A custom plate from Hitec.
We noticed the hosing routing conflicting with the main cooler hose, and had to revert to plan B.

Plan B is the oem saab plate, modified to connect to the Z22SE oil cooler connections.

To be exact; to the right is the older style Saab B207/ Z20NET/ GM-LSJ oil cooler mounting bracket with internal thermostat. Modified to fit into the VX220 with stock water/oil hoses. (Details on hose routing; see my yellow project tread,)

ps; the Hitec plate was not used, mainly because it did not work well for Smiley's extra oil pressure sender. Still have it if needed?

Cool, let me know when you are ready to sell. Bear in mind it is, as you say, a 14year old part with the potential for failure

Just seen this is still going.

Car had a some problems on its first run which took a little while tom sort then went on holiday. Now racking up the miles and doing the mapping.

So far the engine feels good but have only generaly gone to 3500 (with the odd leap to 4500), and getting smoother with each mapping run but doesn't like cold starts and the sc belt squeels like a sod for the first 10 minutes.

Oil change Saturday then starting to hit 4500 and up building up to the max over the next few hundred miles.

Impression so far is its very similar to the last engine, obviously feels tighter and strangely feels like its a bigger engine rather being a smaller capacity.

Still happily pulls away in second and the clutch is as light as the original. It has a slightly lumpy but reliable tickover.

Noise wise seems similar but theres a slightly angrier tone (maybe the enhanced exhaust ports).

Once its run in and I'm hitting max revs (sometime over the next two weeks ) I will post up a detailed post on its build and how its going.

Good to here Martin How are you getting on with the software ?? I'm sure once you start mapping with full revs things will be good , The idle will be down to the cams mine sounds like a muscle car on tick over

Yeah agree it is good to hear miles are getting put on the new engine  thumbsup

I suppose if it feels a bigger motor already unto 3.5k it must mean its already making good torque and agree that bodes well for the upper end of the power band. Looking forward to hearing how it goes once run in and mapped.
