To be fair to Nev there is a link in psychology and possessions. Some have a need to 'buy' admiration from others or to 'prove status' to others by possessions. I probably bought my submariner on this premise. I had an income from a business sale, and probably needed to demonstrate the success. As I have gotten older (and hopefully a little wiser) I'm actually rather indifferent to this watch as it is a bit shiny! Consequently I don't care that much for it and I wear it daily as a meh watch. Yeah, maybe a little frivolous. I bought the VC later as I like the engineering inside it (mentally tiny and precise). I rarely wear it, it has a brown leather strap and unless you're examining it carefully you wouldn't know what it was. I bought this for myself and not to please others. Luckily I grew out of the 'flash' after I got the submariner and sit on my cash instead of spending it. I'm not accusing other submariner owners of being 'flash' I'm more reflecting on my own motivations.
My VC is in for service, I'll bung up a pic when I get it back.
