I got Oblomov's sense of humour straight away.
Still trying to work out if Nev was trolling.

Still trying to work out if Nev was trolling.
I was simply and politely trying to get the expensive watch brigade to have re-think after they looked up the widely accepted psychology behind their purchases. Hopefully if they realise it as they grow older and wiser with life experience, they will look back and help others in the same way.
IMO life is not about how much expensive stuff you can buy, more to do with how much fun stuff you can do/experience. Unfortunately the marketing wheels of our society try to force the former on to us all, and the more suggestible people buy into it.
The fact remains that you can easily buy a £100 watch that is just as accurate, hard wearing, well engineered, functional and subjectively nice to wear as a £5000 watch etc etc. If you chose to buy a £x,000 watch, so be it, but just be aware of what it actually indicates about your character.
I once interviewed a guy for a job who came in blinged up to eyeballs with watch, necklass, bangles etc, he got short shrift.

Surely people should enjoy whatever they are into Nev. Yes if they shove it in your face then they may be a bit of a dicknose. Otherwise; whatever floats their milk boat
I agree with both those points broadly speaking. Surely starting a thread about expensive watches on a car forum is exactly what your second point is?
Anyway, it's not a biggy, just though some of posters might re-evaluate.

I was given as a present a Tissot PRS 518 several years ago. About a £300 watch. The most expensive watch I've ever had! They, nor I, realised at the time it was a motorsport inspired watch and I like it a lot because of that. I've worn it every day since I was given it. I've worn it a lot while working on the VX, smacking it into things as spanners & ratchets slip and it has no scratches at all on it yet. Its a tough thing.

People who have an interest in nice cars tend to also like nice watches. It says something that you're not aware of this...Surely starting a thread about expensive watches on a car forum is exactly what your second point is?
