I've been reading up on the fact the tanks in our cars are not good at fuel scavenging, especially on left hand turns.  Doing some reading here its seems there are a variety of solutions with properly designed tanks with baffles, separate surge tanks etc.  As I'm thinking of tracking my Speedster next year, I best deal with this before I start any track time.  My local track (Mosport) has a serious long left hand turn 2 where my old Cobalt SS TC would pull to 1.2G.  In the Cobalt on an open track day I would get through 2.5 tanks (about 100 litres) in a day... so rather than going out for fuel 5 times, I'm looking for a solution.

I'm Wondering if anyone has tried this Holley hydramat?  or anything like it.  Seems to have come on the market a couple years ago and looks promising.

https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/hydramat/hydramats/parts/16-102

Watch the video on the page, as its very cool how this picks up fuel from anywhere it touches in the tank.   Adapting it to fit the in tank pumps might be tricky, not sure what our pumps use on the pickup?  I assume its the usual sock pressed onto the bottom of the pump.  I'm a completely stock NA car at the moment.

So, wondering if anyone has used this?

How you might think it would work and attach for those that have fought with this problem?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I think you're breaking new grounds going hydromat, as most go pro alloy tank (added benefit of going to 48 or 60 liters instead of stock 36) Pickup of the sock is indeed as you described. See here. http://www.vx220.org...placement-guide

So to recap on this...can you solve the left-hander starvation issue just by moving to an upgraded fuel pump or is it only solvable with either the pro alloy tank or swirl pot ?

The fuel pump is mounted on the left side of the tank.

Do a strong lefthander, and the g-forces throw all fuel to the right side of the tank. (Which is not baffeled)

With the fuel pickup being at the bottom of the tank, is starts running out with the tank still half filled.

So a stronger fuel pump will not help.

Only a swirlpot, a (baffeled) pro ally tank or possibly this hydromat.

If anything a upgraded fuel pump will be worse on left hand corners if you consuming the extra fuel your pump is supplying

Your limited by the fuel in the canister And when your turning left it does not refilling

Yeah it was not specifically the uprated flow rate of a new pump solving the problem.

I thought maybe they might have some special internal reservoir/pickup arrangement to continue to provide fuel for the few seconds when the pickup is uncovered. Guess not!

Anyway, looks good to me who's going to try it first ?  B)

So the blanket replaces the canister and the filter ? A goes straight on to the pump ??

Decent connection between the connector of the oem filter on our pump housing, and the hydramat connector seems the biggest challenge.

Agreed, I think the connection to our pump and getting a hydramat big enough to stretch to the far side of the tank to get every last drop would be key.  The largest mats can get expensive.   Probably the ultimate would be a pro alloy tank with this in the bottom to suck up the last drops from the corners.

On another note, do links posted to this site not work?  I notice my original link does not take you to the Holley site.  Same problem with eBay posts from this site. Thanks WrightStuff for posting the video.

I don't think the baffle system will allow such a mat.

The pro alloy baffled tank has allready proven itself.

(The 60L version has proven to be a pita to get the fuel pump housing back in though)

It's the same part, some either fit straight away, some are a bitch  The 60L is a work of art

Not in my case, still have starvation on low fuel loads and I recall the consensus was that the P-A baffling was not a solution.

Only certain solution is a swirl pot, which IMO is overkill outside of race prepared vehicles.

Indeed. I forgot to mention i also cannot let it run almost dry. I have to leave 8 liters in. So technically for me it's a 40 liter tank.

A few Germans reported the same.

I don't have the link, but remember one of them experimenting with it, and he could not pump out the last 8 liters.

Just for reference are you guys running a upgraded fuel pump? They do make a tank with centre collect for external pump which I imagine is a lot better even compared to the 48/60 they do

I run a walbro 255 in oem housing.

You thing that's linked to the 8 liters?

As mentioned above the upgraded fuel pump will make matters worse so just wondering if you can run lower on standard pump. As max said he got his down to 2L before!

Mines fine for all the tracks I've been to except zandvoort going up the hill just after the long left handed ( still turning left up the hill ) It's fine if I keep 11 litres + in the tank GST 450-k pump here
