Before i even think about stepping up to a Big bike, like 2GOOD pointed out, insurance needs looking into. thumbsdown

TBH i think a 1000cc is a bit too big a handfull for the public roads, 150ish HP probably isn't to friendly exiting roundabouts.

I'm really thinking 600 or one of the slightly larger capacity(sp) 636s or 650s would be my safest bet, I like the idea of being able to use the full throttle out of bends. Without the thought of spinning the rear wheel and possibly highsideing (again, VFR 400  , don't ask :beat: ) etc.

04 or 05 R1. Yamaha will do you a deal on insurance and they are on 0% finance for 18 months right now. Awesome bikes. Just bloody awesome. (But I have not ridden the new Gixer yet.) Still, 3 days closed circuit at the Ring should sort that ... Ben

£500 dealer bonus too ;) After the claims that it would still sell despite the higher price last year.

Could i perhaps borrow it for a few hundred miles
to see if it's the bike for me. :D :poke:

Leave me a big enough deposit (the asking price) and borrow it for as long as you like! ;)

My mate is a bike addict and I was having this very conversation with him today. He'd bought the 05 R1 thinking it was going to be the best thing on 2 wheels ......... however he then had a go on the new GSXR 1000 and traded his R1 in straight away. In his opinion, it much better than the R1 in every way and is easily the best sports bike money can buy. I've also read a lot of writeups about this bike and it seems they agree. It seems to win the R1 v Gixxer reports every time too. btw, he also owns a new CBR-600 RR (the yellow camel one thumbsup ) and reckons it's simply awsome. It should deffiently be on the list for anyone looking for a 600.

R1CHY isn't a little lad (I didn't say fat  ), so it will be interesting as to what he thinks.

I had a sit on a GSXR 750 with standard setup, it felt very arse up, so like you say, probably not very comfy.

:D :D

Im 15 stone but only 6ft so im under tall not over weight :P

Im looking too at the moment Sam

I went to see a Blade last Monday.. its a mates bike and he needs to sell quick, £3500 i think its up for...which aint to bad but its the first of the injection model and they can be a bit temperamentle so im still usure

Ive ridden the new Gixer 750 04 and 05 models and it ticked all the right boxes for me it was more than quick enough for track days etc..and very comfy for a weekend long trips, but i still fancy a 1000 ;)

Although my R6 is plenty fast,it has had alot of work done to it tunning wise to get it there thumbsup
As for comfort i find it OK, can do a 3hr blast on it no probs with no aches :)
I suppose you get used to them though, your CBR is like a comfy sofa in comparison :P Im just bored of my bike and fancy a change :)

The new Honda 6RR is tiny but that all fades a way when you ride it thumbsup

but Anything in the 600 class 2yr old or younger is awsome.

Ive ridden the 636 kwak 04model i found that to be as good if not better than the Gixer 750 thumbsup

The new R6 didnt impress me :( same as the old one :(

Ive got another mates GSXR600 05 on sunday (he's selling too  )
I think everyone i know is changing they're bikes at the mome
He let me ride his old K1 model and i was well impressed, so im hoping the K5 will be better...I'll let you know buy monday thumbsup

But im just as confused as you mate :( there are so many good bikes out there it very hard to choose
Best thing you can do is test ride them like i do.. thumbsup

Also Thames bank are good for insurance mate
I was paying £600 pound for a 120bhp R6 when i was 26 thumbsup

PS.. if you can wait a few weeks mate (coz it still aint back from the painters  ) you could come down and borrow the R6 thumbsup

R1CHY,I had a 2000 model Blade in 2002,stuck an Akrapovic silencer on it & rode it down to the bottom of Spain, absolutely no probs & loads of fun.Bought it because the GSXR1000 that I'd bought new the previous year would've killed/tortured me on the same trip.Sold that Blade to a mate who still has it & because of it chopped the GSXR in for the new blade last year.So it gets a thumbsup from me.

Mick43 had one too I seem to recall.

The question you have to ask yourself is What am I going to use the bike for? If you just tootle around by yourself and go to a couple of bike meets looking at other blokes bikes and rubber suits while drinking pop you probably won't need a big bike!! If however you go out when everyone is still in bed and meet a couple of mates who are handy and you need an edge then the best bike you can afford is the way to go. ALL bikes that look the same are different. By that I mean when i rode a Zx9 I thought it was great but then I rode the fireplace and it was soooo much better- it had a better power delivery and was easy to set up for my riding style. The zx9 did not suit my riding because there was a noticeable power surge at 7-8 thou revs yet the blades power was more linear and really smooth and therefore easy to control. You need to ride as many bikes as possible down the the same road to see what suits you. I did lots of track days and that is the best place to set the bike to your riding style especially if you are like me and like rear wheel steering!!!! sorry this was so long but bikes are still a passion and I am trying to get them out of my system but unfortunately its not working.

The question you have to ask yourself is What am I going to use the bike for?

An excellent point Sir :D

I posted this to another list yesterday, excuse the cut and paste. Today I had to ride through torrential rain, floods and all manner of crap on the road, old steel frame CBR, BT020's, formerly broken rider thumbsup not probs

"After getting new tyres and C&S on the ex Brice CBR600 I've had an interesting week riding it 80 miles to work each day. Having bought a new '97 GSXR600 in favour of the Honda I was looking forward to being able to review my original choice. I thought the differences might be quite subtle but they aren't. The CBR has a much more relaxed riding position, which for a high percentage of the time on the roads makes much more sense than the Suzooks more track focussed set up. Engine wise the CBR is, as expected much more user friendly low down, really takes it's time to get going and is surprisingly harsh as the revs rise. I thought it world be more refined that the GSXR but I think the Suzuki's engine is *much* smoother at speed. The Honda's gearbox is agricultural in comparison to the Suzuki's. The suspension on the CBR doesn't feel quite right. I've set the rear comp and rebound damping to "normal" but it does tend to jolt me out of the seat over certain bumps rather than soak them up. I thin maybe striping and lubing the linkages might be required. However the biggest difference between the two is the sluggish steering of the CBR. I know the GSXR's handling was raved about at the time it was launched but I never had anything to compare it too. You only had to think about changing direction quickly for the Suzuki to respond, the CBR requires you to fill in application forms...in triplicate.

It sounds as if I'm moaning about the performance of the CBR but in truth it suits my riding style these days better than the GSXR and after two years on the DRZ it seems to rattle along at a fair old pace. Plenty quick enough for me anyhow :-)

Hi Sam.

Not done it yet, although I've managed to rally round a group, and there is about 6 of us wanting to do it this summer now. Should get us some money off.

Yeah, I'm still after the Aprilia RS250. Still not had a go on one yet, but I've still not heard anyone with anything bad to say ...... so that must be a good thing.

Want a CBR 600 RR after that.

What are you riding now?
