£675 incl VAT and shipping in the UK.

Wow, what a deal! I take it you get tyres for that price as well?

Sorry Thorney but as the us chavs come further into the forum, your prices seem more and more ridiciolous. I respect the fact that you are one of only two real UK VX specialists, but some of your prices are a little extreme. thumbsdown

Look how successful the diffuser in the for sale thread has been. The majority of us are not after something that has been developed in a windtunnel by NASA, we just want well made, well priced mods.

Again, I'm sorry if this sounds like a rant mate, but really, I'm only trying to help. thumbsup

Anyway, back to topic.

Muncher, was there any developments on the 17" front wheel option? If so and the price is similar, I'll probably take a set (put off by 16" at the mo, phobia of small wheels. poof ).

I thought 17 fronts had trouble with the wheel atches if the are wider than standards 195

I'm sorry you feel that way mate. However I have explained why the price is different. The Pro Race 1.2 is a popular rim and TD make them in volume so the basic price is low but the VX needed a different inner offset so I have paid for that to be developed. This means that TD can only make them in short runs (I don't have the finances to order 200 sets of wheels) so the cost per wheel is higher to us - simple manufacturing - the more you make the lower the per item cost is. Add to that the fact that mould costs are not cheap (multiple thousands of pounds) so we have to spread that cost over the cost of the wheels means incrementally the cost is higher so the RRP is higher. As regards the Team Dynamics France getting wheels cheaper that TD dealers in the UK getting them I've no idea...but you can be sure I've asked if this is the case and if so why. Oh and where have I 'stopped' this group buy? All I have done is react to the allegation of complacency on behalf of the site in 'promoting' the deal but not acting by offering a more formal alternative for those who are concerned over the legality of the deal. Doubt has been cast by the ultimate supplier (TD) over the deal so they've helped me provide an alternative - thats not stopping anyone do anything. So, to be clear. This site (VX220.org.uk) takes no responsibility, direct or inferred, for any aspect of this group buy. Those wishing to do so undertake the complete risk themselves.

Anyway I know that at the moment several speedsters' owner in France and Switzerland use the ProRace 1.2 products, supplied by my company (of course there is an invoice with each set of wheels sold ...) without any problem ...

Best regards.

Also as JT mentioned payment can be made to TMS via credit card, I have to say this would be my preferred method if I stay in the group buy as I'll be insured.

Thanks

I would have thought if Muncher has a "company" and is "sending out invoices " (as above post reads) then payment by credit card would be no problem?????

Imnotworthy it is very generous for Munchers company to do/set up this deal and make no profit etc from it. thumbsup ;)

Reading that again, it is the French supplier that it the company, not Muncher. Otherwise we would have a world of VAT pain. Due diligence would require at least some enquiries who that agent and supplier is before I hand over any payment, and as a minimum I would use my credit card to protect myself, or perhaps Paypal.

Again the question of warranty needs to be answered, plus what about defects and replacements or do they have to go back to France ?

These are the sizes for 17" Prorace 1.2 cut pasted from Rimstock UK site

7.0 x 17 e+15/18/20/25/30/38/45/50
7.5 x 17 e+15/20/25/30/37/45/50
8.0 x 17 e+20/25/33/37/45/50
9.0 x 17 e+23/30/35/40/45

There are four to chose from depending on you desired tyre mounting width, until you fit them you won't know unless someone else has already tried this. Presumably you want the offset as close to the original 175 front wheel ( ET26 ) , I think the group buy is using the ET25 16" version. Hope that helps

But you have to understand what he is saying about the nature of these parts in terms of the VX being different to other cars and having to have parts specially made and in very small numbers. There quite simply is a much higher cost to produce these parts (by the manufacturer) and therefore that cost has to be passed on.

For all you and I know (unless you've been told what Rimstock are charging him) Thorney might be buying his wheels at £675 and making absolutely no margin on them whatsoever. In fact I would be surprised if the supply of this sort of product (inc the carbon fibre bits, nitrons, miltek etc) was making him much margin at all. I would have thought it was probably the least profitable part of the business.

Remember that he is in business in this industry and not just doing this to help out a few mates, so who can complain if some margin is made on the items he sells? As as for the diffusers, well the alternative ones were described as "homemade"! Even if the quality is top notch, there's hardly the same costs involved as getting a proper manufacturing company to fabricate them so the two things can hardly be compared can they?

Organising a one off group buy, offering your time for free and making no profit is one thing, but if you are going to offer a full range of products regularly then you are not going to want to do that for nothing are you?

The same thing goes for the other parts that he sells. Yes technically many of them are overkill for most people and yes they are more expensive that alternatives (if you don't get the technical benefit from them), but then again he has the same cost issues here as with the wheels, plus he would have worked out a price for them where he can attract enough customers to produce the return that he needs to make his efforts worthwhile based upon an understanding of the demand for such parts.

Thorney has obviously decided on the type of product that he wants to sell which appears to be proven components, rather than something that's not proven or is purely for asthetic purposes. It's up to him to make that call and it will be him alone (as the business owner) that will suffer from making a wrong decision. Personally I think that there is a whole plethora of retailers out there selling all sorts of "performance" parts, 99% of which are utter crap, however money is made on them (e.g. Halfords, Demon Tweaks etc), and I for one strongly apreciate that there is at least a handful of companies that are willing to ignore that and concentrate only on the things that really make a difference. Plans and Courtenays are exactly the same in this respect, just look at their websites and see the items that they sell thumbsup

Also remember that you yourself have the freedom of choice and if you don't like or can't afford what he's offering then go elsewhere. As you've said, for some things (e.g. diffusers) there are alternatives, so use them. The same applies to Muncher's wheel group buy. If you are happy with the product he is offering and the advantages of buying a slightly different product from TMS doesn't concern you (e.g. different offsets, big brake kit compatability, aftercare etc) then go for it, it's your choice. thumbsup

But it's not clear if Rimstock offers the appropriate bolt circle in all sizes. I had similar problems trying to find a nice light wheel for my MX-5. Not all offsets were available with all bolt circles.

There is a reason why I did not manage to find this out, Rimstock their website does not work with firefox. As I was told by a Rimstock dealer, they have a standard stock casting in a given size/width, that is then machined to the desired PCD or Centre , on a per customer needed basis.

Hello Paul,

My company employs at the moment about one hundred people ... so I would not be mad enough to fraud VAT !!! I have been a usual customer of Team Dynamics France since it had been created, and most of the wheels I buy to them are for the french speedsters' forum ... that is why I have interesting prices on THAT model Pro Race 1.2 ... Moreover as I am close to the T.D. office, I stop every week to pick up my wheels ... and reduce as well the purchasing price.

My contact in Team Dynamics France is M. Alexis WALTER (you can check with the british team ...), and his phone number is : +33.380.67.05.50, and his mail : teamdynam@aol.com. I let you get in touch with him directly, I think his english level will be better than mine !!! I also think he will send you my ability to provide you the wheels without any intermediate between us.

My merge on this deal only concerns me and my company, I think that the bristish dealers do not know the reality of our market (yesterday, a standard pack has been sold by my competitor Feu Vert my a 5 % merge ...).

I agree with you when you say you have to be very careful, and I let you investigate as you think it is necessary.

If this deal becomes too worrying for the british dealers, the only risk is that T.D. in UK would block the order ... a new kind of protectionism in fact. But I will not be responsible for that.

Best regards.

Fabrice

Sorry:)

The TMS set:
Front: 5mm wider track (to provide extra clearance for the AP Brake upgrade)
Rear: Same offset as standard

On "My" set:
Front: 1mm wider track (i.e. sod all)
Rear: 5mm wider track (i.e. marginally more than sod all)

The changes are so small that in reality they make no difference to the handling of the car, if anything widening the track by a tiny amount is a good thing but no one would really be able to tell)

"My" set may be OK with the AP upgrade, but I've no way of checking, so assume they are not compatible.

I'm a tad lost here.....

I've read the thread over a period of time, and although i'm undecided about keeping the vx (or getting another next) If i do keep it/replace it with a Vx I will want some TD wheels.

In short WTF is going on?

I can understand where JT is coming from, and I'm not going to argue the limited run issue....but from what munchers contact says its the same wheel with a +4mm track????

The frenchies seem to make these wheels work so why not the UK? If its a AP upgrade issue then fair enough...but why dont TD UK offer the same as the french package at a reduced cost?

It all seems a bit weird to me
