Suddenly thought we apply to this thread.
Started off with a couple of cats a handful of years ago, House and Alley (brother and sister) but Alley went missing the night before the 2011 national and never returned (I was talking to Joe in the bar about cats just before I got absolutely sh1tfaced and had my 'national episode'). We never saw her again, and I can only hope she either found somewhere nicer than our house, or her end was quick and painless.
So we still had House, who pined and pined for his sister and we decided we'd get another cat to keep him company, but we'd wait until after we got back from Hong Kong on holiday. Of course House had other ideas, and was hit by a car on the last day of our holidat. Neighbours found him in the house, with as it turns out front leg broken in five places and took him to the vet and called us, asking if we had insurance. Of course we didn't, so the potential £1200+ bill for rebuilding his leg, just on the back of the most expensive holiday we've ever had, was a bit of a shock. In the end, and I'd hasten to add this wasn't strictly for monetary reasons, we decided along with the vet that it would make more sense to amputate. The decision was made in the deaprture lounge of HK airport, and by the time we'd landed and got back to Dunstable from Heathrow, House was ready to be taken home. The result is a 3-legged cat who is probably more agile than he ever was before. He still climbs trees, onto the roof of the new extension and can beat us up the stairs to bed. The slight irony in it all, is that he is named after Dr House, the character who had a dodgy leg...
A few months after this we got another female kitten for company for him, and called her Halo. As expected they weren't too keen on each other at first, but now spend 90% of their time together, usually in a spooning position, cleaning each other and playing. House clearly thinks he needs to protect her as well, as every time another cat comes near her in the garden etc he's right out the catdoor to shout at them. I'd like to point out that we called her Halo not because of the computer game, but it fitted in with House - two H's. Alley worked as it was house-cat and alley-cat.
Anyway, some pics....
