I've just bought a 2.2 6 speed box and wondered if anyone has carried out this conversion :unsure:

it's just a 2007 vectra 2.2 standard box, I've been looking for one for ages and the breakers had two :rolleyes: oh well, I suppose it will be another steep learning curve :beat: a couple more questions, should I fit a usa spec atb diff - only £200 :o and a lowered final drive :poke:

Answer = Yes and yes!

(Take plenty of pictures then write a How To guide please :P )

You seem to be the pioneer of VX tuning so why change the habit of a lifetime??

Good luck!

Look at you trying to make us jealous! What is the gearing like compared to the 5 speed? Is the 5 speed exactly the same as on the Astras/Vectras?

The OBX items ?

Apparently the "F23" advertised LSD is in fact an "F35" one; they didn't fit F23 at least for the first batch
(seen on jbody.org I think)

Great project :D I was interested into doing it as well but I first have to get about 220hp and at least 260nm of torque It's torque that moves the car as everyone knows and just for ref. the F23 gearbox as a final ratio of 3.95:1 1st 3.58:1 2nd 2.02:1 3rd 1.35:1 4th 0.97:1 5th 0.81:1 same for the turbo version but 5th is 0.79:1 don't know the specs of the vectra. :dry: Cost is too expensive but hewland makes great gearboxes but don't recommend it for street use as the noise level will not let you :sleepy: while driving :D

Vocky what are you trying to achieve from the FD change? are you after lower engine speed at cruise (or rather a higher top speed), or do you want a fairly spirited 1st-4th/5th and then a lazy 6th? if you want accel you want a bigger number FD (and lower for top speed). unfortunately my cunning website full of calculators is down at the moment but keep checking the speed in gear linky www.slindborg.host.sk/index.php

Imnotworthy I really wanted to do this when my box died, but I was pretty sure i'd need to make a new engine mount bracket and I got scared. How much did the box cost you? I heard somewhere that Lotus intentionally didn't fit LSDs (even on the Exige?) as it muffed up the handling... But then with 215bhp you might need one! Does it look like it is a bolt-on, or are you going to make a new bracket for the gearbox side? I'm sure others would be extremely interested in the bracket measurements - especially as I imagine it is only a small step to go from that to dropping in the entire Alfa 2.2 JTS or Z22YH engine/box lumps ...

Hi vocky, Earlier in the year I came across a 6 speed box on ebay, out of a 2007 Astra VXR complete with flywheel. I was going to purchase it for my supercharger project. The seller was a VXT owner who was trying to transplant it into his car. He said they couldn't get the box up running due to the differences in the cable selector mechanism plus they had some mounting problems. He indicated they had even tried to use the 2007 Astra VXR selector and cable setup with no success. I hope you can figure it out vocky coz I really want this option! thumbsup

I don't know what fits/works on the z22se but a honda s2000 is a very goood gearbox i must say, if not the best! I'd propably never come across a car with such an easy to use manual gearbox as that one is.

my aim is for faster acceleration through the gears but retaining a decent top end, something which the 5 speed box cannot do. gear ratios are very similar to the F23, so looking for a 4.125 (ish) final drive ratio problems: gear linkage - cable length ? ; gearbox mount - I will make one. not sure whether I will bother with an atb diff, it's just they are so cheap in the usa and the box will be in bits :P

problems: gear linkage - cable length ?

Think it was related to the way the cables interact with the lever mechanism... will see if I can dig out his contact details for you.
