Been on a number of trackdays at Llandow.

Cracking little circuit, ideal for newbies too and cheap as chips to hire (especially on weekdays - used to be approx £1500 for the day, open pit lane). Could well work out as the most cost effective option

There's a cracking Kart track next door too!!!! thumbsup

Cheap, that sounds good! I like the idea of a bunch of sheep farmers with some spare tarmac let people race around it only if they all agree its a good idea.

If I remember rightly there are a couple of good pubs in Llandow village too (for when we finally get kicked off the circuit) and a decent (and cheap) greasy spoon cafe by the circuit entrance - what more could we want?

Right spoke to Paul at LoT.

It's looking bleak for a summer dates folks, unless we go somewhere cheap, where no other TDO's are going... Places like Llandow, Pembrey, Brunters.....

Paul seemed to think that the best track for us would be Croft (good facilities, etc), but it's location is far from ideal.

Bedford is too expensive, and is a non spectator venue.

Donnington is very expensive through the summer, and we wont get weekends till November (7000+VAT). Not too bad a price for November.

Rockingham still satisfies alot of our needs.... It's better to end up in gravel than hitting a wall?

Mallory is central, boring, and unsafe

Oulten Park is not a venue for beginners

Cadwell is cheapish, good facilities, should get dates, it's fairly central, but not the safest track!!

Llandow is very cheap, but boring according to Paul, but as the event is not a flat out track day like he arranges, but a social event too, they rank highly because of the facilities...?

Snetterton is 6500 + VAT November onwards

Anglesey is an option, but its a long way away

Sorry that reads like it's proper not writ right, but he talks quick, and my notes are messy :D .

Basically...

For a summer gig, it won't be a mojor track due to race calender, and prices.

If we wait till November, everything comes down in price, but the big tracks are still pricey!

Have a think people, and post away

JJJ can I just say thanks for trying to organise this thumbsup thumbsup To be honest I dont really care where we go as long as there are no speed cameras, a BBQ and a few beers after (oh and some sun would be nice :P ) Being as not every one wants to spend all the time trying to wear their tyres out, Llandow would get my vote. Second vote would be Snetterton Is it worth setting up a vote to try an narrow it doen abit?? Rich

Good work, Jimmy. I'm still waiting for the guy at Bedford to come back to me. :beat: As a track, I really liked Rockingham but, with the exception of the pit garagesm the facilites weren't exactly great for the non-trackers. Hopefully if we do it a little earlier in the year we won't have to contend with the windchill factor (although rain is always a potential problem whenever). Would be nice if the diner was open if we went again. Definitely want to try Cadwell but agree it has a reputation of biting people if they get it too wrong. Croft looks interesting but will be a fair old haul for people in the South (although more pallatable for the Scottish owners). Looking at the track layout for Llandow yesterday, my first thought was it seemed a little boring and I think you still need to treat it like a flat out trackday. Pembrey looks better. Would love to go to Anglesey, especially if it's the coastal circuit. I'm not really bothered where it is, as longs as it's vaguely accessible without having to make it into a 3 day holiday in which case I'm off to France instead. Did Paul have any feel for availibility or do we need to refine our options a bit first? Maybe we just need to find out what's available in late August and September and make a choice that way.

There is limited availability at any of the top tracks, especially weekends.

What there is is totally OUT of our price range!! Bedford on a Sat in September would need 100 cars paying £300 each. As we are only going to muster 50 cars......

It's either start looking at top places from November onwards (after October the prices drop 40-50%), or go for a lesser venue whenever we want.

His thoughts of the most suitable places were

Snetterton, and Rockingham from November onwards
Croft, Anglesey, Llandow or Brunters whenever, as they are cheap. He didn't know anything about Pembrey.
Is it fair to say Bedford is out....

My point of view JJJ? My experiences of 'Nationals' is a tad limited....I've been to two at brunters (and the skid pan day...dont ask) but to me it should be a social event as opposed to a trackday. At both Nationals I've had more of a laugh at the mini millbrook as opposed to watching people track their cars. To me a compromise would be best, as opposed to finding the 'best' all out track to go to.... It would be nice to find an all around balanced package...for that read a half decent track for the purists....with carting, sprint, half decent food on the day, hotel/bar on the nightime for the rest of us that treat the event as a social gathering. I've not been to the last two because i've been busy at work, however, (much that I like catching up with old friends) the idea of freezing my nuts off in Noveneber watching others track doesn't appeal to me. At £1500 it seems to me you have already ticked most of the boxes thumbsup if they have an expanse of tarmac that JG and Adam can put some cones on I think a lot of the non trackers would be happy thumbsup

I agree,it needs to be more of a social event :)

I think the idea of a summer date with camping (+hotel for the winter shed types :P)+ p*ss up would be a very good laugh :)

I agree, the national is such a mixed bag of people you are not going to please everyone. Regular trackers want to race and not get held up by people, and noobs want to feel safe taking their time. What category do you fall into Jimmy? I think in general VX national is a noob day and anyone expecting or used to a full on track day will have gone to others throughout the year. Who normally organises it, am I right in thinking its a different person every year? Wonder why? We got plenty of sheep here too! I will have something in common with these Welsh farmers.

Well, it's a treck for me but I guess I could make a long weekend away of it (and I've never been to Wales) so Llandow sounds good to me!! Just need to agree on dates now and Get a quote! (remember it's FROM £2000 and will depend on time of year.) Not teaching anyone to suck eggs, but quote needs to include at least 4-5 Marshall's. You need to check they have, or can point you in the direction of Public Liability Insurance (for gods sake don't forget this, you'll never hear the end of it!!) and IMO some instructors (enough so that people could book up-to 2 sessions each so probably 3) & also for the £150 it would probably be prudent to have medical facilities around. Also, find out what facilities will be included in the quote. for example Pit Garages. Also worth asking the track if they have any links to local hotels which could provide us with special rates due to numbers attending. On a side note, on the two nationals I've been to (Snetterton and Rock) I must say that there was defiantly a lack of things to do for non-trackers. Past meets sound great with mini courses set up and skid pans etc. with the bank of knowledge on this forum (it never ceases to amaze me that I always seem to get an answer for whatever question I ask here, on any subject!) we must be able to arrange something. While I'm not exactly local JJJ I would certainly be happy to put myself forward to help arrange / organize this years National (using my limited ;) track day organizing skills) as it would be a little more practice for me for my future plans. Let me know Dean

 It took me FAR too long to get that

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right I'm waiting on a call back from Llandow, but the woman I spoke to reckons they'll only cater for around 30 cars.... Sure they'll change thier mind, as I reckon they need the dollars.... They had tons of free dates.

If people who are not looking to track are keen, I can check availability, and co-ordinate a Karting grand prix event for the same day. They can take up to 50 drivers too.

If you go to Google Maps and type in this postcode CF71 7PB switch it to satellite mode, and you can see both circuits in the bottom right of the screen. Drag drop zoom away. The Karting track is really good, I've raced there in the past.

Just ideas.....
