Just a quick correction,

the "special" valve driving Renault F1 had a few years ago was magnetic, also reffered as camless as each valve was driven by a magnet

Pneumatic "valves" are in fact pneumatic springs, almost all (if not all) F1 teams are using this as simple springs could not work at 20000 rpm
so this one is not Renault F1 specific ;)

they made little difference to my phase I engine, perhaps a little mid range, but should help my phase II

they are actually 45 dcoe trumpets modified to fit the itb's thumbsup

you mean no valves

I decided against an electric pump this time, I believe 'Adam' had a problem where to locate the pump but has it sorted now. I have figured out a different method for installing one, so could/should have fitted one

That is all way, way too shiny!!

I have had the valve seats enlarged for the +1mm wasted stem valves and also the head skimmed thumbsup

next job was to fit the new valve seats, modified oil seals, double valve springs and titanium retainers. I checked for coil bind by careful measuring and it all looks good :D

next job is to fit the head and set up the timing

next job was to fit the head, set up the GM vernier sprockets. There appears to be a problem with the pressure relief valve sticking on some z22se oil pumps so I fitted a brand new oil pump.

next was the exhaust manifold, I have rewrapped it as the heat was starting to affect the clam :(

new gasket for the webcon throttle bodies

Hi vocky. Great work! Question - How easy is it to get at the oil filter with the iTBs installed?

IMPORTANT

if you fit a LSJ / SAAB / Z20NET head you must not use z22se spark plugs anymore :excl:

the LSJ / SAAB / Z20NET (sandcast) heads use a 'flat seal' spark plug rather than the z22se (lostfoam) heads 'taper seal' spark plug. Also the z22se spark plug sits 5mm further into the combustion chamber and can touch the piston :beat:

luckily for me I cranked the engine over by hand and felt the 'contact', so glad I never tried starting it :borg:

I have fitted some Saab Iridium plugs for now and it started first time :D

no more difficult than with a standard inlet, perhaps a little easier

Phew! Close call there. Thank God you did turn it over by hand and are sensitive enough to have felt the contact. I'm pretty sure I'd have just happily fired it up.

Great news that it's up and running. When are you back to Northampton to get the map sorted?
