lack of lag and excess-heat makes it more palatable IMO... torque will never be a problem with our 2.2 mill anyway... B)

when i spoke to regal about this they said that with a supercharger you do not get low down power.....basically the power delivery is at the top end 4500+ rpm......but with the rest of their mods it is possible that the power will be 240+ with a poss 210lbft....

I've got a pamphlet from Delta-Motor with the torque/power curves for their supercharger (it's not on their website). I'll try to get round to scanning it in over the week-end but, in the mean time, here are some comparative figures using the conservative 195bhp version that they now say should be 204-205bhp.

..........................Max. Torque in Nm............... Max. bhp
VXN/A...............203@ 4000rpm...................147@ 5800rpm
VXT ...................250@ 1950rpm...................200@ 5500rpm
Supercharger.....270@ 3500rpm :P ............195@ 6000rpm

As superchargers are directly mechanically driven, and don't suffer from a lag like exhaust gas driven turbochargers, the power should be available from fairly low revs. Delta-Motors figures support this....

The supercharged version equals the VXN/A's max.torque of 203Nm at about 2800rpm instead of at 4000rpm, so IMO there is a worthwhile improvement B) here and not just at the top end. It's a nice, steadily climbing bhp curve too.

Of course, I've already asked how far it can be taken if other aspects are altered (cam, exhaust, etc.) but they haven't really got that far yet.

Im still up for some tuning so I may be interested in the supercharger, the delta one still seems too expensive for my liking :o John.

Here's the Delta-Motor power curve (early version of supercharger, new has about 9-10bhp more). Image was a bit big. See next page!

this is the reply from rsm racing We ship world wide, the kit has been developed for the 2.2 ecotec motor and it should work fine but we would need a pic of you engine compartment to see if there is any difference. The SC kit comes with install instructions and it takes about 8 hrs to bolt-on. Sincerely Zsolt Szabo Marketing Manager RSM Racing Inc so if anyone wants to send them an engine bay shot...... cheers d

Bit dodgy getting a kit and fitting it yourself of getting a work-shop to do it... guarantee??? Also difficulties with emissions/motor management, etc. not easy to sort yourself. Think it might be wiser to get it fitted by the supplier with guarantee. Would Regal guarantee 3rd party equipment that they fit? Have you heard anymore from them, Minime? At least Delta-Motor is in Europe and not the States! :)

I would be moderately optimistic for the installation...a supercharger is much easier to install and run than a turbo, but still requires a knowledgeable shop; then a remapp will be obviously needed. does delta-motor offer a "substantial" warranty in case the engine goes bang? is the re-mapping included in the deltamotor kit?

As I understand it, the supercharger itself is guaranteed. They can't really be expected to guarantee an out-of-warranty engine, but I wouldn't expect 200bhp to cause the standard Ecotec internals problems anyway. :) They recommend Mobil 1, which I use anyway. The re-mapping etc. is part of the fitting price from what they imply. That's why they're still working on optimising it with four cars running superchargers at the moment. They want to give you the keys to something that's sorted. They seem very straight and are long-established, but must admit that I don't know anyone who's used them. Will be able to form better impression when they've got it homologated and I can test-drive one. Won't be till into May at least though. :(

Mmmmmmhhhh! That Elise has whetted my appetite even more for a supercharger. :groupjump: Magic! I don't know yet exactly what changes Delta-Motor make. Will find out when they are ready to show it and sell it! :D

Just scoured the web to find out how to convert NM to lb/ft In british talk we're looking at 199 lb/ft of torque :) for the supercharger conversion. (1.356 NM to every 1 lb/ft) Should compensate for the Weight diff between the TT elise and the VX imo. Shame I wont be doing any of this until i've paid the car off or somehow I win the lottery :P

am I hallucinating or the s/c driving belt is moved by a camshaft extension?! that's the air-filter side, and the alternator pulleys are on the other side... :drink:

You got me wondering there Ricky. Just been to look at the engine bay. There is some sort of bracket on the air filter side. Is that where the cam shaft bearings are? I took some pics of the engine bay. I'll post them tomorrow some time.... Colin

another reply from rsm racing after sending engine bay pics: The SC kit needs a couple of small mods to fit your application but we can do it no problem. I am assuming you have a 5 spd transmission, could you get me the a code for your transmission? The mounting bracket has some mounting points on the tranny, we need to see if your car uses the same tranny as the Cavalier and the Sunfire and if the bracket will fit. cheers d

Sounds cool :) I think the VX has the same gearbox as the Astra 2.2 SRI if that's of any help. I'd love to see a vx with a supercharger :)
