Really sorry to see this hopefully the insurance will sort it quickly for you I pay £700 for insurance I'm 27, 8 years no claims. So £1100 including a write off is good. I have spitfire toelinks on mine which the previous owner put on because the OEM toelinks used to creak when hot.

They quoted me £2100 for an F430 scuderia at my age so I must be doing something right.

There is only one tyre mark on the road and its basically astraight line to the lamp post. I remember going onto the roundabout and the car spinning 180 on the spot but cant rememebr which direction it span in, then the tyre line points to the drivers side rear which would indicate it was the toe link which failed perhaps?! Edit - which expalins the buckled driver side wheel

Nah, it is the fact that he can have a policy limited to 100 miles a year as he always uses the Peugeot.

im putting my money on the toe link failing.. i mean for £130 you can replace both sides with both ball joints and the bar. to me it should be done every 2 years.

I agree with Chris, looks just like a toe link failure which would have made you a passenger in the spin.

Well if that's the case, and if it is going to cause accidents as bad as this, where can we get them? Motor factors?

Sorry to see this fella. If this is toe link failure and its becoming a common and dangerous fault as the cars age should this be raised with GM via VOSA?

Thats a laugh. i tried rasing the issue of hub carrier bolts failing - there have been enough of those over the years, some with disasterous consequences. No one seems interested. Wear and tear Vauxhall said. They need to be maintained. Strange its not in the service schedule though!

What is the extent of the damage on the pax rear then?

Sorry cliffie, missed your reply in that.

Not sure really. Axle looks bad, engine looked untouched. Its the fact the rear wheels are pointing in opposite directions (passenger side obv hit the lamp post, but wuld this then cause the drivers side to move aswell?

The fact the driver side wheel is so angled and the only tyre mark o nthe road pointed stright to that wheel seems to poitn to this toe link failure.

you can get a left or right complete kit from vaux at £63 i think. i hope people are not using 12.9 tensile bolts for the HCB.

Service parts as are the ball joints and tie rods as well as track rod ends. Just never appear on a service schedule.

Well it would cost Vauxhall/GM money so you can see why they would belittle it and not be interested. VOSA might be though but I've no idea. I guess it's much the same as a track rod end failing on the front. Which, no-one would expect to be anything other than a service part I suppose. Anyone ever had rear toe link come up in an MOT? wonder if its even checked by the average garage.

When the car span, did it catch the kerb? as this could also knock the rear wheels like this (both sides)

And odds on those kinds of thing dont appear on the service schedule of ANY car, because their wear depends on use etc.

Still this is going to be a nice rush of fear for most to get the toe links and HCB's sorted..... might be good business for you mr shi-take :P
