My supercharger makes a sort of cement mixer kind of noise at tickover. The noise isnt constant and doesnt seem to effect how the car runs. It was doing it when we went to Zandvoort but I only heard it occasionally and from inside the car, it sounded like the rear clam moving with that sound of vibrating fibreglass, and thought that, as the clam had only just been put back on. Its seems to have got worse now slightly.

I can only hear it on tickover but havnet got anyone to rev the car and listen out for it yet.

Below are links to two videos I made to capture the sound (sorry if there a bit big) and a photo.

Any suggestions or ideas will be very welcome.

Snout rebuild bearing kit is pretty cheap on ebay, with new oil and coupler - basically everything that can fail. All you need is a press to change it.

Out of interest Martin, how many miles have you done on that charger and was it new when you installed it? Do any of the m62 peeps change the charger oil ever? Thought it was pretty much maintenance free?

Most people and I think Lee and Joe change it when installing. Apparently oil is for lifetime but cant help to change it. Also they "should" have been shipped without fluids anyway.

The oil is very unstressed as it doesn't get contaminated or exposed to combustion products, the heat cycles are fairly gradual and the oil itself is ashless so won't leave deposits. I changed mine as I changed the coupler, but don't see a reason to change it if you're not doing anything else.

Or at least whip the throttle body off, see if it still makes same noise? Could be something caught around the butterfly?

I had thought that but wouldn't the car hunt for an idle if there was an obstruction?

Will take off the air filter end and have a look at the butterfly as that's the area it seems to be coming from but its really not clear exactly where. Sounds more like its coming from the odd shaped alloy thing that's external to the throttle body (yes, I am without question very technical!). SC was a refurbished one I believe and has done 27000 miles on the car. Martin S

Is the noise gone with the belt off? The SC's internal coupler is then most likely the cause and easy to change. Check for excessive rotational play by turning the SC pulley by hand. (belt off)

Coupler is famous. Mine even came with one. Its a plastic doughnut with holes in, tenchically id imagine its designed to tolerate a very slight axial misalignment (angle) between nose and body csstings.
