Vx isn't a super car it's made in a shed in Norfolk However with a little bit of time and investment it can be made into a super car killer :) on track off course ;) IMHO the Vx wasn't made to be driven everyday it was for weekend fun, plus driving to trackdays and driving home! I would hate to drive a Vx everyday that said I don't know anyone that buys a high end sports car or super car to drive everyday

Agreed, theres no way id use that everyday! Ifi did i think just getting in an out would finish my career forever lol. Think im going to take everyones advise an go for the stage 2 SC to see what its all about as it sounds like a good investment financially aswell as an SC recently went for £14k from a garage in norfolk 😃

I wouldn't recommend it as an investment, as prices range from £7.5k - £12k dependant on condition and spec. Only do it if you really like the car the way it is just now (i.e. the way it drives and makes you feel), otherwise, once you get accustomed to the extra thrust (and you will), you'll be back to square one. At that stage you'll realise this isn't much available with the same performance for the cash, and either sell it or go down the exponentially more expensive further modification route..

Just take a step back and think if the car suits you the way it is currently. If it isn't, the SC conversion won't solve these things for you, other than straight line speed..

I have other cars to use so more than likely wouldnt sell it if it was supercharged as i could use it occasionally but just wanted to make sure the money i spend wasnt going down the drain.

It will be money down the drain. At best, you'll get 50p per £ spent on the conversion back come resale. At present rate, by the end of this year, there'll be more supercharged 2.2's on the road than NA 2.2's.

Don't go there then.

Most SC VX's go about 2k over their NA price. (after investing 3.2)

There is way to much numbercrunching in this topic, and not much love for the car itself :(

Yup, modifying is lamost exclusively never a good investment.

If you want a VX220 shaped investment your best chance, and note I used the word chance, is a totally bog standard VXR - preferably with low miles and proper service history...

But where's the fun in that?

Not talking about track use but come on, you cannot seriously say that you'd rather drive round day to day in a vx than an sl merc with heated leather seats, sat nav, tv, v8 engine etc etc

I think a few VX owners on here could buy you and me twice over  nothing to do with wanting a luxury car with all the latest kit, ( a lot have both ). All the cars you mention would be nice for a while but I personally would want my VX back for the fun factor after a while. I could have any of those no problem but don't fancy the running costs and I think I would soon want to change. I changed my cars a lot over the years but never wanted to change the VX other than for a top end Lotus maybe as I enjoy the thing.
I've had my fair share of high end sports and supercars and in all honesty heard good things about the vx so i got one cheap but ever since i got it i felt it needed more and didnt feel that way with any other cars ive had.
Totally different cars, the VX is a noisy rattling bag of bolts you can't compare it to a top end sports car. You either like the feel of the total feedback and fun of the thing or you don't and buy a lovely comfy fully loaded floaty barge that's ten times more car for the money. What do you get for your money in the VX oh yes a cup holder in the wrong place  If you got a SL and had a gear box or engine problem the repair costs would be in heart attack territory and general running costs not far off. You say your VX needs more, that's because as standard it does if you want to play with big boys on the straights you need the extra 100 +bhp On the bends last Hoon the 911 with us had to move over for my bog NA and got left well back then it was gone as the roads opened up, depends what you want

The wide range was the point, and 350z would prob be close to bottom on the last but for £10k wud anyone say no to an 05 plate sl 500 merc with 40k?

i was going to get an sl55 but instead bought a stage 2 sc and IMO the vx is a far better car albeit it with less mod cons. Yes the sl is a very luxurious car but its not even in the same league for thrills of driving as the vx especially a charged one.

just my 2 pence

Personally, I think you need an E46 M3 in your life if you're not getting on with your VX Re: Merc SL, I'd rather pour a weeks worth of SL petrol all over my gentleman parts than sell my VX and buy one

Very little, but then that's hardly the point of these cars...

Ever thought about an Astra VXR?
