We repaired the subframe legs and added a little strength by cutting new circle tabs, welding them in place onto a piece of 3mm plate and then welding this in place on the leg, this way we wernt welding the small tab in place ontol the already damaged area of the leg and the plate would spread the load out over the area bit better. These plates may also be base plates for a bracing bar between each leg which we may make removable...
You can see the new plates either side here in thismore recent picture..

Due to this we decided to change the control arm mounting points and have relocated them to the lower arms. The inner side of the controle arms will now be attached using a rose joint on the new mounting points. Hopefully this will also make the control arms stronger as they will be much shorter. We havent yet made these but well do this once we put the rear end back together. Heres some pics of the lower arms being put together they still need to be cleaned up and given a lick of paint Posted Image

More recently ive given my upper arms a clean up and a lick of paint. Ive also poly bushed them and finished painting the subframe. The arms could do with a quick touch up before reassemble of the rear end as I marked them fitting the bushes and I am yet to fit the ball joints.

Ive also been giving my rear brakes a clean up as a background project at home. What a pita!!!

Some more goodies have arrived also so these can go in next time I get down the garage. Hopefully my swirl pot and pump fittings should arrive before then too.Posted Image

Ive also got another background project on the go atm which will hopefully see me with 4pot brembos and 330 discs on the front for under £250!!! Il elaborate on this when I know some more myself :)

Made an intercooler mounting plate out of aluminium so thats in place sadly didnt get any pics of this for you guys but I have mounted the intercooler.. tried it in many positions but found this orientation to be the most effective making sure the pipework for it would also have clearence of everything around it.

Will be interesting to see if you can keep the intake air temperatures under control under sustained loads/boost with this or not.

Airflow/cooling in the back of mid-engined cars is always difficult, so air-air IC's can have a hard time. You may want to look into some ducting to make sure you get the most/all air from the side-scoops through the IC and none escaping. Perhaps add a puller-fan that's switched by a thermo-switch too.

Many people end up going for a water-air chargecooler setup with a second radiator at the front of the car.

Bye, Arno.

Back tracking to an earlier job while stripping the rear end down we had a hell of a time removing the lower arms... the ball joints attatching the rear control arms had siezed inside the bushes. Not like usual. However hard we tried to break them free they wouldnt loosen up. after trying everything we could think of we decided to go for the last resort...rather than damage the subframe beyond repair as its seemed so weak in this area, we decided to cut them out. Firstly we cut the ball joints away revealing the small circle tab tacked into place on thelegs of the subframe. This was the next piece to come off revealing the lower arm ear bush.

Wow, that's quite the repair... :o

On my car I had the same on both sides, but with a metal blade you can saw through the bush & bolt from inside the legs. Quite easy with an (air-) reciprocing saw and decent metal blade. Just make sure that you don't cut in the frame...

This has been playing on my mind arno.... ive decided to get it up and running firstly then if I have problems with iat's il go for the chargecooler setup rather than chasing my tail with the air-air Intercooler...

Loving what you are doing to this. I think it was at an age where it just needed a bit more love than i had time to give it.

I passed the laptop to my old man too who originally owned this car and did the first 100k miles in it. Wasn't sure how he would react given he was somewhat attached to the car and told me never to sell it...He was actually please to see it being given a new lease of life.
