So, rich did some research and we've somehow managed to book into the Britannia hotel on the shore of Lake Como for £42 per night including breakfast. Lakeside pool, the lot. We've booked in to Ibis Orange for another two nights so we can go to Monaco via the Col du Turini which is supposed to be an incredible mountain pass tomorrow. Cannot wait. Col du Turini is stunning, and your going at the right time of year all the passes should be open. I did th cdt and Stelvio in the snow once one R1Rs. Yikes! Nufenen, Grimsel and Susten are also great links through the Alps.

Great read - this is reminding me too much of the euro motorbike trips I used to do. Anyway Neil, unless I missed it, how have the ZZR's been on track? Much difference to before?

You're right Steve I haven't reported back on the ZZRs. I'm impressed. They have a bit more ultimate grip but they do seem to last longer. When they go it's very gradual and they can make you look like a hero by correcting bags of oversteer with (sometimes full) opposite lock. I'll reserve final judgement for a track I know in England. The temps are 25 deg higher down here so not really a fair back to back comparison. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Whereabouts on Lake Como? We are heading to Gravedona on Lake Como next Sunday after the Austrian Tirol meet. If you had come home via Switzerland rather than back to Orange you could take in at least 3 of the famous mountain passes

We are at the Brittania Excelsior. The main reason we are going is to drive those passes so yeah, can't wait. Except the Lotus is very sickly. We drove to Monaco so late last night that we ended up doing a midnight lap of the GP circuit. Crazy times but bloody awesome! However, we didn't get home until 6.30am :o And it would appear the Lotus has got sickly. We thought is was the engine at first but now think it's something to do with the exhaust. Sounds like a bag of spanners. So we're just checking out of the Ibis in Orange them dropping the undertray in the bloody car park on 2hrs sleep. Followed by an 8 hr journey. Wish us luck! And... it was the manifold. Crack in the weld right round one of the pipes.

As for mine, I finally got too fcuked off with fumes from both front and rear and called ChrisUK. Didn't realise it was bank hol Monday back in UK so sos mate! Chris told me to unplug the heater completely which I did and to check the vent pipe handy come out the catch tank. It had. Front fumes no longer happening and rear good for now although the amount of fumes coming out the pipe does concern me. Anyone got any ideas why it could be so bad?

Off to find a French welder!

Look for a Ferronnerie in the Yellow Pages.  If you don't have access to YP I can look that up from here, let me know.
