As Im sure its going to be used on track, its going to be a monster of a VX220  :tt:

You will need to re-learn everything!  :excl:

I think it will monster almost all road legal cars TBH, what can you think of (under £100,000) that could realistically get past it?

The key will be traction, ie rubber, I guess it would need at least 1100mm of rubber to exploit the power, maybe more to be safer.

It will also be interesting to see how the running gear/bushes/joints cope. This has been one of my main fears when driving mine.

I have 245 fronts and 285 rears. When warm, with Federal 595 RSR tyres and 345 ft/lb they generally don't spin up in 3rd gear so long as the tarmac is good and flat, but it is worry some, cos a little bit of camber change or white lines or grit etc can change that in a split second.

To feel really safe in 3rd gear I think I'd need at least 305 on the rears. With your sort of output maybe more again. Seriously.

I went out with a friend in the (very slight) damp about 3 months ago and was booting it for 70 miles without any drama, then all of a sudden it unexpectedly span up on smooth tarmac at about 90 leptons. Thankfully it stayed straight, but this lottery is constantly there unless you have lots of rubber or TC.

My honest input would be to stay at about 235 on the fronts (so it doesn't get too darty/jiggly) and get as much rear tyre width as you possibly can. It will make the car very camber sensitive though :(

If I had my time again, I'd have probably made my bodywork even wider and put 305 rear tyres on, though this might cause serious chassis rubbing and/or a large offset between the centre line of the wheel and the hub (which has some implications I expect). Too late for me now unless I want to do yet more major bodywork.

Lee, was it not easier/cheaper to just order a complete ZZP Racing assembled LE5 short block? Think that includes everything you have listed above, including a new 2.4 crankshaft etc. and fully assembled.

But I did not calculate the numbers...

Yep. Only "issue" is they have a 2.0 / 2.1 version or the 2.4 litre option. They do not have a version with a 2.2 crank.

Lee; are you making an internal 2.2 (OBD) triggerwheel for the 2.4 crank? (That is one reason why a fully assembled ZZP block is not handy to buy, as you need to remove the crank for fitting the internal triggerwheel.) Or simply go external like the B207's.

i was going to buy the racing engine as its good value for money, but would of had to split it to put my internal trigger wheel in so decided to buy it in bits and build up by Vocky .

plus i didn't want to go external trigger wheel

Internal triger makes sence.

Make sure you have the right measurements, as I remember that the 2.4 triggerwheel has a different diameter than the 2.0 B207 version. It's also differently clocked on the crank, so double check that too.

I've often wondered if peter could off set the trigger wheel (2.0 or 2.4) signal in the software to match the z22se trigger wheel setup

He probably can, as it is just 1 number somewhere in the code. But doesn't make much sence, as OBD needs the (odd) 6-1 trigger pattern and all other GM engines use the 58-2 pattern...

Back to Nevs point on tyres. Is putting 305 wide tyres really the right answer? Doesn't seem right to me, but hey what do I know.
