collected engine and got some quick dimensions
engine width inc thermostat housing at its widest point is roughly 840 mm
front to back inc thermostat housing and flywheel is roughly 500mm
engine is standing at 600mm at the mo but that doesnt inc the inlet manifold yet as unsure what style im going for
maybe an r8 or rs4/5
also the engine as is weighs in at 211kg

Main issue is the front sump width vs. the lower wishbone mounts - not sure 840mm fits in between them.
Not sure what that all includes, but once you remove the DMF and all ancillaries like A/C and power steering, should loose some weight..

yeah that is the concern at the moment the sump on this engine is very flat and shallow but very wide
i may look at the exige v6 suspension dimensions and work around them instead

mind you with the fabricated subframe and engine width that could dictate the rear wheelbase.

I guess you could potentially (given your fabrications skills) shorten the lower wishbone on the chassis side to allow the mounting brackets to move out wards slightly, and use a spherical bush in that particular wishbone point.

yeah keep thinking that the lower arm seems very long and flimsey even tho i know it stands up to high power quite well
so yeah shorter but stiffer arm

I wondered if it was feasible to cut out part the double sill section right at the front to provide another ~25mm clearance. I don't know if it provides any structural benefit to the tub, or is there simply to allow mounting points for engine torque and wishbone mounts..

thinking of using them for part of the subframe mount

Is it possible to cut the sump and re weld it to suit (assuming the crank/internals don't get in the way of doing this)?
If that's possible I would imagine it would be easier and less costly, and also you'd not have all the geometry issues to consider...
Also, if you made the sump say 2" deeper in the area near the pickup pipe (and extended that down by 2" too) then you'd eliminate any chances of oil starvation on hard cornering.

The sump on these engines are aluminium as part of the engine almost like a second crank brace with just a lid on the bottom I think the rs4 is deeper with a baffled pickup But it could be possible to put an extension on sump plate for the pickupIs it possible to cut the sump and re weld it to suit (assuming the crank/internals don't get in the way of doing this)? This sounds mental, will be tracking. Also, hello from a fellow Barry boyo!
