The pre cat removal gave a slightly different exhaust note and it seemed to pick up a little quicker but I would say a bigger noticable difference is found from the remap.
It feels I can point it and squirt it if that makes sense? It's feeling a lot more like a two stroke kart, just how I want it. There's no hesitation from low down revs and between 4,500 to 5,500 revs it's a different animal.
The time may now be right to invest in a Snooper!

Mines an 03 at 11000 miles with pre-cat removed and piper backbox (which I think is the same as yours?). It does seems to be running quite rich, which as you say could be the box, but I'd think would be more likely the overfueling to cool the precat.
If its the same, I'm deffo interested in the gains, and any increase in MPG...[/quote]

Mine is a 2001 with 4,000 miles. Just the Piper, pre-cat and Viper. I also stuck in a tank full of Optimax before arriving to Courtenays.
Didn't really get chance to test mpg. It's like having a new toy, so was giving it a healthy push of the right pedal most of the way home. Weather permitting, I should get a better idea this weekend. John

Hope the weather is OK for you, BBC 5 day forcast looks OK for tomorrow and Thursday when I'm booked in but wet on Tuesday, sorry JimMines in tommorow, got a long journey to get there but with the sun shining and a new remap should be a good trip back.
Will post my results and give my opinion of it tommorow.

The Figures
Before (Hayward & Scott full system, ITG induction kit)
Power: 160.2 bhp @ 5417
Torque: 161.1lb ft @ 4077
After
Power: 167.8bhp @ 5648
Torque: 164.4lb ft @
These peak figures don't really tell the whole story. Torque is increased right across the range, and both torque and power are significantly higher from 5k rpm to 6.5k rpm.
I'll post a couple of ropey photos of the plots below. Something to bear in mind about the Courtenay plots - the y-axis scale starts from 0, whereas some places (e.g. AmD I think) start from higher up (e.g. 80). As such, the gains from the plots don't look as impressive...don't be fooled!
Obviously, I'm mightly chuffed with the results! I think it confirms my feeling that I've got a very quick VX

The before figures were already very impressive - I believe this proves that the ITG really does work, and that the Hayward & Scott proves to be a good performance exhaust.
However, it's not all about the figures, it's about how it feels
The Drive
As soon as I pulled out of Courtenay's drive, I could feel the difference after the remap. Throughout the rev range throttle response feels far more instant, and the car picks up immediately. Previously, if you were languishing about under 3k rpm and put your foot down, there'd be a slight hesitancy. That's gone now, and the power comes on much more linearly from 2-4k rpm. This makes the car more driveable around town, and it feels more "nippy" in general driving.
Above 4k rpm the acceleration is definitely more insistant than before and it feels much more free-revving. It also pulls harder above 5k rpm, really piling on the revs up to 6k.
The key advantages I found on the drive home are:
1. Overtaking moves starting at 50mph are now easier, as it pulls much harder in 3rd at 50mph, and the speed builds quicker, getting you past the mincer more safely
2. Driving around town is much smoother and requires less gear-changery, as the torque from 2-3k rpm is improved and the car feels very responsive low down
3. Overtaking on motorways is easier - again, the car feels much livelier when accelerating from 60mph in 5th.
4. Quicker A- and B-roads made up of mostly 3rd and 4th gear bends/straights flow better, as you find yourself having to stir the gearbox a bit less often
I had a great drive back (except getting lost in Norwich!) As I left Courtenay the persistant rain stopped and the sun came out. By the time I got to the good roads, the sun had dried them and the roof was off

I managed to take in a whole host of good A and B roads on the Norfolk/Suffolk/Essex borders, from fast sweepers to tighter twisties. On all types of road, the remap makes the car feel really alive, responding instantly to throttle inputs. Acceleration feels noticeably better across the rev range, especially from 2-3k and 4-5k rpm (not necessarily what the plots would suggest).
You also definitely find yourself covering ground quicker, as you pull harder out of slower corners, and build speed faster at higher rpm.
When I got to North Essex, the sky was looking threatening, just as I got to some great roads I know well. It was one of those times - do I put the roof on, or risk it? I was feeling lucky, so it was me vs. Mother Nature. What a drive! Deserted twisties, the impending downpour encouraging me to up the pace. Definitely one that will be remembered for years to come. Oh, and I won

So overall, I am incredibly impressed with the remap results. I'm also thrilled with the results of my combined mods! As an added bonus, it was the first time I've heard my car from outside. Wow!

Big

Also big thanks for doing the ABS switch - very neat install...just gotta find somewhere to test it now!
