There's me thinking that this was a reasoned debate rather than a point scoring excercise.....

Oblomov, why the need to restoke the fire here??? Whilst I respect both sides of this arguement, I cannot help thinking that your "end of" post is just gloating in your (perceived) "win"........

Now come on lads arent we all supposed to be friends I have been shooting for as long as i can remember ! I shoot my own rifles and shotguns on a regular basis mainly for pigeons, rabbits, hares and the like. I dont consider what i do "inhumane" what so ever. I can see what you are all getting at though about air rifles, but i think they do get a undeserved bad press at times. An air rifle is a very good piece of equipment for dispatching vermin....in the right hands, as with any other weapon. I shot targets for god knows how long before i had the confidence, skill and most importantly the consistantly to take vermin. I, like 99.9% of the hunters out there NEVER take a shot unless we are certain that it will result in a clean, pain free as possible, hummane death. Please dont brand us because we enjoy our sport. Its not the shooting we enjoy, i can quite often go shooting for a full day and never even reach for the trigger, never mind miss a few ! but its the countryside we all enjoy mostly Shootings fun ! and so is hunting ! to me, there is nothing more satisfying than going out in to the field shooting a good few wood pigeon and having them for tea that evening. No middlemen, the freshest food you will ever eat! I suspect some "anti hunt" quotes are coming from the city boys who are totally oblivious to what damage the cute little bunny wunnies do the land out here. I suppose im going to get some grief for this ?

if and i mean if (because i'm not convinced) theres a need to shoot animals to "manage" the countryside then so be it, but to enjoy killing animals is wrong, anyone that cant see that has got a problem IMO regardless of how much they deny it - now thats end of as far as i am concerned. As for winter hobbies i think i'll find something else to do rather tham asking friendly questions on here
