When I recorded the tapping on my NA only phone it sounded horrific. But in reality was not that bad. Not had a listen to the clip myself (on mobile at the mo), but definitely have a look at the auxiliary belt tensioner as that runs on bearings that when they degrease/wear sound rough. Lack of performance doesn't sound right, but don't panic about it being a total loss just yet. I would definitely take up VXTyrants offer and a chat. If if is starting to smoke heavily could it be the Turbo unit on it's way out? Low boost and smoke could mean a dead turbo... Fortunately you may be able to get a cheap VXR unit (isn't that part of the Stage II spec).

Stage 2 doesn't necessarily include the VXR Turbo as the OEM is capable of 280ish bhp by itself. thumbsup

Posted Image . PS for your level of tune 0-100 should be more like 10-11 sec, so that Fiesta at 21.8s (according to torque stats) should obviously not have stood a chance.

Heard the clip and it does sound tractorish but I'm on crap speakers and you recorded with a phone so between them it probably would sound crap anyway. VXTyrant's offer FTW thumbsup

Why don't you just pay 50 quid or whatever it costs and stick it on a rolling road to find out the power. It is the only way to tell, should be around the 240 bhp. Mine is stage 2 from MMG with a few extra's and it easily pulled away from an r26r the other day so a fiesta should have been chicken feed.

I wouldn't panic take it to a specialist and get them to look at it or you or a member from here. It might be something simple or you just being paranoid I know I was when I first got mine. I have had a few problems with mine but the VX isn't a mass produced hot hatch it's a hand built sports car. Welcome to ownership and hope you have many years of fun driving. Keep it on the black stuff and drive within your capabilities and road conditions if you want to find the limits book a track day

Has it got a boost gauge fitted? If not, you can pick them up pretty cheap and they are dead easy to fit. You should be getting at least 15 psi overboost from around 2500 - 3500 rpm and hold 12 psi through to 5500 rpm. I think the latest TMS maps may be a little higher than that again. Standard maps are around 10 psi overboost and 8 psi held. Anything less than that points to a problem on the induction side. A split or loose vacuum hose is the most likely problem although you can't rule out a damaged turbo or a dodgy map. The engine does sound a bit noisier than usual, but the VXT engine always sounds a bit tappety when idling and the revs on mine always hunt between 850 and 900 rpm even when new. Check there is enough oil in it as being slightly low could help make the top end a bit noisier (unliekly to be a problem if it has just been serviced though). And my Stage 2 does 0-100 in 10.8 seconds and is stupidly quick in all gears. Yours does sound like it is massively down on power. Any decent garage should be able to find the problem and check for fault codes through the diagnostic plug. If they can't find anything wrong, a rolling road session will check your fuelling and boost to make sure the map is still OK. In my experience, most of the problems on this engine are a sod to trace but usually pretty easy and cheap to fix.

just to add to this....ive had around 20 vx220 turbos now.....got many vxt for sale.... had lots of swaps for astra vxrs...280bhp...and 300bhp... stage 2 vxt feels so much quicker than the astra vxr 280bhp i test drove....trust me ,you may not be running stage 2,could just be a miltek system and a poor map... get it rolling roaded to check mate...

The fact that you just managed to pull away from a fiesta ST (2.0 litre engine) with your VXT may indicate that your turbo is knackered and you would therefore be essentially running a 2.0 litre which is lighter and more aerodynamic - hence having the edge. PM if you want to take me up on my offer as i'm happy to meet up thumbsup After reading this post you had me paranoid so this morning, on my way to work, I had a little blat and boy is it fast. It would have to be one hell of an Fiesta ST/Astra VXR to compete... EDIT: I think PD Tuning in Boldon have a rolling road iirc - may be worth taking it to them to test the power output! EDIT again  PD does have a RR (http://www.pdtuning....rollingRoad.htm)

It's too late now, but I'm surprised you didn't post the car's details on here / ask if a member on here could go to have a look at it with you - before you bought it.

Im uploading a few videos i made in different gears of the speedo. Its done on a private road and yes i know the fuel light is on, i was on the way to petrol station anyway. I dont know if you can judge by the speedo if its slow or not but you lot with stage 2's should be able to compare?

Where you giving full belt in those clips? Although I have never been in a tubby I can well imagine the power surge in itPosted Image...my N/a goes spastic after 4,000rpm and as I recall, much quicker through the revs than those clips show...
