use 5.1, far less maintenance involved. Although brake fluid should be done every 2 years worst case.

just use pagid dot4 , 0.5L should do you fine , I prefer the super low viscosity types but they are getting harder to find http://www.eurocarpa...70271&0&cc5_179

I was under the impression that Dot 5 was silcone based and should NOT be used in a system with dot 3/4/5.1 in because it would eat the seals?

whereas Dot 5.1 was gylcol based so compatible

Yep, DOT5 should never be used. DOT5.1 is fine though. Personally, I use RBF600 which is a DOT4 "racing" fluid which has much higher boiling points than 5.1. But I also change it two or three times a year as well, depending on how much of a beating it's taken on track.

No, it just means it goes about 300 miles between replacement. Wish the oil stayed that clean and fresh.

I replaced my 1144s with 1155s just before the National, took them on track after using the drive up to bed them in and they stopped my car whenever I needed it which is pretty much what's need of brakes. This may just have been because I was pottering around like Miss Daisy but certainly it was harder braking than I would expect to do on the road and had no problems. Having not used anything else I can't really comment on their suitability but it seems to me if you can get new pads and discs for £200 that will stop your car effectively, unless you're tracking lots, more expensive pads aren't going to offer any additional benefit. Each to their own of course :)

i find my 1144 as a road car it stops better than any other car ive driven, im not sure what you do with your car but i would be asking do you really need a noisy track pad, or so you just want to buy them as everone else buys them?

The 1155 works as well as 1144 from cold, when fitted with anti-rattle pads and buffers makes no more noise, copes better with high temps when tracked, lasts a great deal longer and also produces less dust. Only downside is technically should not be used on roads.

I feel ripped off, all this talk of £200 for 1155s and disks from Camskill....including postage it comes to £201.94!! :P On the plus side, I got them ordered early yesterday, so should have them for fitting on Saturday....review to follow.

tbh they are cheaper now than when I got them, as it was £200 when I purchased cam skill discs and 1155's in 2009  so with inflation they are mucho cheap now.

Why is that Alex? Are you referring to 1155 not technically to be used on roads?

FWIW I find the 1144s superb. No real dust deposits and great from cold. Bit squeaky until warm but who cares. I would also say that now having 250bhp ( I know, I know 249.8 :D) they cope very well.

I found 1155s actually quite dangerous on the road, they need to be warm properly to work well. 2h's on the moterway off and up to round about, breaks! what breaks

Are you sure you had 55's and not 66/77's?
I never had an issue at all with 55's stopping power, even in sub zero temperatures first stop etc. Sure they were better when warm but NEVER dangerous.

its a good habit to give the brake pedal an occasional go , 2 hours on a motorway you've got plenty of spare time to do it ready for an emergency stop.
