Everyone has a right to live, but I have always thought of driving as a privilege.
I earn't the my privilege to drive by showing a proficient standard, I I fall below that standard that privilege should be removed.

The problem is that old people don't surrender their licence until they are well below the standard required. Both my grandparents were the same, and dug their heels in when told.
I'd imagine I would be the same when the time comes though. Its like the feeling of freedom you get when you pass your test, but in reverse.

Sounds like I was lucky - writing off mine was never mentioned.
56 plate VXT.
Initial repair quote 6.9k - rear clam, exhaust and painting.
They've beaten the repairer down on price (Vauxhall dealer) and I'm waiting for the call to book it in.

The other driver's insurance company are being really slow and no sign of payment being made yet so putting up with the BMW for a while yet it would seem. It makes me car sick its so wallowy.
I'm still waiting for my excess back from a 'non faulter' 14 months ago
Good to see the repair looks like it's going well and I hope it's a smoother process recovering the costs for you than I've experienced.

For non-faulters I will NEVER pay an excess. My insurance company will have to reclaim it from the third parties. You should never be paying out anything for a non-faulter

At the time the fault wasn't agreed. Eventually their insurance company agreed to it but they're just refusing to pay up. Last I know is that mine got solicitors in to recover the cost of the repair (resprayed used clam, new rear OS lamp). Worst bit it is my insurance won't acknowledge it as a non faulter until they get the money back. So I've been through two renewals with 0 and 1 year NCB and an unresolved claim to my name
Pretty similar incident to yours. Happened on a roundabout, other guy jumped some part time lights because he had "never seen them on before".

They may be, but some of their customers are worse. There's no issue about liability here.

They have asked their customer to reach into their pocket for the excess no doubt and now liability has been denied. Classic. Just make sure your cheque is for the full agreed value when you get it and bank it. 7 days later move the money somewhere else (preferably an account you hold in another bank) to ensure a cheeky banker can't debit your account without authorisation (no it isn't allowed, but yes some people do it anyway ) Do not move the money before 7 days incase the cheque bounces.
ETA: If the cheque isn't for the full value, do not bank it, get on to the insurance company. DO NOT send the cheque back. If they are worried you might bank both and won't send a new one tell them to put a stop on it rather than send it back. Their client's excess is nothing to do with you.

Don't forget to always decalre that you've been in an accident when getting quotes for your insurance for the next 5 years. I made this mistake once thinking a non-faulter wasn't classed as an accident. I subsequently ran for 24 months without valid insurance until a future insurance quote person informed me.
I was lucky I didn't have an accident in that period, I'd wouldn't have been able to claim...
