If they are valuing the salvage at £440 then you need at least £6k cash, ignore the stupid book price, hardly any vx220's sell at garages so the book price is just plan wrong

Going to see the bloke I bought it off tonight. He fixes crashed VXs up and recently made a smashed rear clam good so hoping he can advise best way to get her back on the road. That's if his insurance company ever pull their finger out and pay up. You'd think they'd hurry given I'm driving round in a BMW at £80 a day on them. No wonder premiums keep going up.

doesnt the cost of the hire car also add towards the total cost of the claim , which would lower the total payout in the end ?

Nope it's plus costs incurred so hire car, loss of earnings, breakages etc on top of payout for the car.

Good news. I can get the front clam repaired, the old scuffed wing and sill damage repaired, and a full respray in Mexico blue for less than £400. This includes paint and fibre glass repair materials. If it needs a headlight this will be on top. And it's getting done 2 mins from my house. Just need the claim money now!

£400 for a full respray and repair! Either the guy doesn't like braking even or your going to have paint flaking off after a week.

I advise the use of a smaller brush for the tricky bits.

I was expecting this. I've seen his previous work on a golf and the finish is spot on. He estimates £55 for the paint. He does all the bodywork and paint work for the mechanic i've used for years (now a mate) so I'm getting a very good deal that no one else would get. I'll post pics once its done.

Lost some man points and had to refer to the manual. 'Press the brake pedal and the clutch then press the Start Engine button'.   What was wrong with turning an ignition key?

Just on this: 1. It's good practice to start any car with the clutch depressed 2. Most automatics require you to have foot on brake when starting Following those two principles should allows you to start 99% of cars (Unless you can't find the start button)

Wow. Thanks. Re the repairs - one of the benefits of living in the north east rather than the south east perhaps. Anyway, crack on with the dulux jokes I'm just happy to be saving a sh*t load of cash.
