It will take a few days for a full understanding, as usual Boris was suitably vague and the implementation done on the fly - I get that its understandable its changing day to day but things need to be clear. Again they have not been. All he said yesterday was people can still go out to work if they cannot work from home, and its essential. What does essential mean? Even the list we got doesn't cover everything.

It will take a few days of dithering and changing minds but we will get there. I can imagine putting a roof back on a building exposed to the elements is essential but starting work on an extension might not be.

Agreed.  Media put it into the context of keyworkers a few times last night, yet this morning apparently builders are able to work as long as it's not within 2m!

It's pretty essential our planning permission doesn't lapse and we have to go through that again - which it will in July.

But, yes, I'm a little uneasy about it actually starting without any guarantee (as much as there ever is) it will get completed in a timely fashion. Builders have got a dodgy enough reputation for abandoning jobs part way and vanishing as it is. I'd rather they didn't start if there's going to be issues getting supplies of regular materials and the risk of the guys themselves going down with the virus and disappearing for a few weeks. Then there's also the 3rd party supply stuff like scaffolding, concrete, steels, custom windows/doors, skips, etc that might all be interrupted and leave us hanging. As much as the useless conservatory needs flattening, it's at least serviceable currently which it won't be on day 1 of the build when they demolish it.

However, I'm also not keen to be the customer that cancels and that puts him and his company in peril, at this time economically sensitive time.

think you and the builder need to have a conversation

And I was finally starting to put the VX back together.. Another couple of weeks and it might even have been able to get it retrieved back to my flat, but I guess its now marooned for the foreseeable. Could be worse I suppose..

They did say you can "go to your allotment" - does this mean I can go to my isolated lock up a couple miles away.. :P

MOT booked for the 4th, runs out on 12th. When we’re finally allowed out again plus the backlog it will be way into May before I’m driving it again.

The guy across the road has been up in his helicopter twice today. Wonder what supermarket he's urgently visiting that has a helipad. Obviously didn't bother using his 720S as the shopping capacity is so bad.

Well I went up to the local shop yesterday the first morning of the "semi lockdown" the very very first thing I saw was an 80 year old bloke doddering out of the shop having gone in for his paper.

So we are setting fire to the economy, people are going to go out of business immense stress is being cause to protect people and that's how we get paid back for it?

Still no support for self employed but the salaried workers shout at them from the safety of their home office on full salary. Getting fed up of the white knighters now. We know there's a crisis on. Some people are facing a choice between feeding their kids and not feeding their kids and while ever the Government misses SE workers out of the safety net then the tubes will be full. Builders will go to work etc etc They aren't doing it because they are greedy they are doing it because they live hand to mouth and live without all the niceties of salary/holiday/sick pay etc I think it's about time peoples spleen venting was directed at policy makers rather than individuals. Just stop and consider that other people might not be in as fortunate a position.

Somewhere not nearly as posh as that makes it sound. Though there's another property over the road that also has a helipad but the guy who owns that also has an aviation company (and something to do with Land Rovers and Mitsubishi off roaders) but I haven't seen a helicopter there for years. He's obviously preparing for the apocalypse as I've just seen a new AMG G63 pull out of the drive.

John, Yes its tough for all of the SE, I know, I am 1 of them

Its even tougher to get a process in place to cover for them, listen to what is being told (informed), further information on this by Friday.

DWP / HMRP etc are working 24 hours a day to get a process in place.

If you were informed and the website eetc wasnt in place to work people would complain even more

Not only are the NHS working very long hours, but all systems and processes to support the country are as well. These things dont happen by magic.

How do I know you may ask...( just some insider knowledge on DWp and Crown Prosecution Service...I can say no more)

Please be patient...thank you

They do indeed. However I obviously don't want to find myself with a £35k partially filled hole in the garden. Or three weeks later a £70k partially roofed but largely open to the world shell of a building. If it goes tits up after that it'll hopefully be at least waterproof and securable and we won't have paid anything more as the final payment is on completion.

Just heard at least one of the big local builders merchants has decided to close it's doors for the duration so suspect the decision will soon be made for us anyway.

Awaiting local Planning Dept response as to whether, given the current climate, they can give us a 3 or 6 month extension to the planning permission. Either that or I'm going to dig my own hole in the garden and point to it saying "look, we've started work" Spanish style.

You are correct, if you show work has started, then your planning permission is live for 5 years. Just dig about a 6 inch deep trench where the foundations are shown on the plans. You do not even have to dig all the foundations just enough to show work has actually started.

If the model / theory was correct and subsequently proven, it would suggest the lethality rate was significantly lower than originally estimated. This could have a significant impact on how we deal with it (i.e. less extreme social measures, as the risk has become lower)

Bottom line is you wouldn't know unless you conducted wide scale testing for anti-bodies (which governments like ours are slloooowwly starting to realise the criticality of)
