The heater unit in the VX has a sticker on the side that indicates it's a Lotus part. Buy a new Heat Exchanger from Elise parts and swap it. thumbsup

Have you done this then Stev, and does it make a difference?

I need to do a complete heating system overhaul, directional control on dash doesn't work and not a hint of anything other than freezing air coming out. So, I've just ordered myself one of these kits and looking forward to seeing what difference it makes. When I had the dash off for my retrim, I noticed the ducting on the underside of the dash cover wasn't sealed very well and was very leaky (proved by the amount of bugs and grit coating everything under the dash cover). When I refitted the ducting and vents, I resealed everything with draught excluder and this definitely improved airflow as it was no longer venting air into the void behind the dash. I also removed about a kilo of gunk/flies/grit that was sat in the ducting and in the dash void and probably made what air does come through considerably healthier. Ideally, you'd probably glue (generously, to seal it) the ducting back to the foam underside of the dash cover but I wasn't sure what glue to use. Might be worth having a go at this to try a wring a bit more airflow out of the heater. It's not a massive job, maybe a couple of hours to remove, clean, seal and refit. As they say at Tesco's, "every litttle helps". thumbsup

Further to the above, here's a couple of snaps showing just how much crap is in and out of the dash heating system:-

Granted, mines a 51 plate so has had more time to build up all of that crap but it was truly disgusting!

Well my Revotek heater pipe arrived last week and I fitted it last Thursday, easy to fit took about 30 min. After driving for a few days I really can't say I notice any difference, the air flow is the same and so is the heat output, maybe my alloy pipe was very well fitted in the first place, I did spend some time doing just that about 3 months ago  Its a very well made piece of kit for sure but I'd check your heater pipe first!

This is why I am a bit hesitant, my heater isnt actually that bad and I dont want to folk out the cash not to notice any difference.

to be honest it wont make a big diffrence just by changing the pipe, i would put a bet on that half of your pipes arent snugly fit, i took mine out and taped it up with insulating sticky tape , similar to my last vx and it works a dream, in fact it gets too hot after 10 mins and only takes a min to clear windscreen.. also some mornings are that cols when u turn on the heater it makes the inside windscreen worse so your better off with a microfibre pad and a quick wipe!

I got mine a week or so ago and fitted it I must say I got it mainly for the filter as I am fed up with all the crap which floods into the car. I took the dash of yesterday to put a shift light in and mine was the same as techieboy's full of ... I have sealed the ducting up now and will put it back on.

I did take my heat exchanger out and give it a bit of a clean but there is nothing really wrong with it so felt there was no reason to buy a new one.

Just got mine. Ordered it on Wednesday Evening, delivered by Friday morning. Apparently the Lotus boys are jumping on the back of this too  Top quality unit, a tad pricey but worth it IMO.

Is there anyone who could help me fit this, and do the other heater fiddles please please please? For a couple of bottles of your favourite liquid refreshment? I don't mind travelling (within reason) to somewhere convenient for you... Thanks chinky chinky

I can take a look at it if we get round to comparing lights. Maybe a mini-meet in Swindon/Bristol next weekend might be a good idea.

A guy at work almost wet his pants laughing when I said I may actually clean the VX myself, and was like: 'You. Clean a car?' Funnily enough though, I was going to edit my post because I figured your thought may become apparent to someone sooner or later! :D I wouldn't mind doing it myself at all; thing is that I don't know what anything is, so instructions telling me to unscrew the flux capacitor and remove the warp drive would be pointless. And I'm guessing the warp drive isn't labelled...? :P

You can just eject the warp core by tapping a few buttons on a dash

Duh!
